Does anyone here know of any good ballet schools in san diego for an advanced student(teen) who aspires to become professional?

My dau has taken classes at California School when visiting grandparents. It also has a company attached. There are also 2 different San Diego ballet companies/schools closer to the city, but I don't know much about them.

Are you looking for schools IN san diego or just san diego county? I take at a very good school in North county. It has a small number of students, so it's very individualized. The teacher is VERY good. Right now one of her former students is full-scholership year round at SAB, even though she was not Balanchine trained (the school is Vaganova- based, integrated with aspects from other forms.) Would you like the website?

www.tothepointe.web.com . If you have any questions, you can ask me or the instructor actually has a screen name on this board– ToThePointe. I'm sure she would be happy to answer any questions.

My family will be moving to California next year, probably near La Jolla (north of San Diego). I've noticed that several of the parents on the board are from California. Do any of you attend or know anything about the pre-pro schools in the area? I'd like to find a school before we move. Any advice or previous threads about this would be appreciated. I don't know if it matters, but my daughter is 10 and is in her 3rd year of ballet. Thanks!!!

Knock knock.

City Ballet of San Diego has been recommended to me before. I didn't have the time to visit last time I was in the area so I can't speak from firsthand experience. My teacher knows one of the directors from a while back in Stuttgart Ballet.

May be worth looking into as it seems quite professional.

Yes, it's a good school if you are looking for Balanchine training. A well- known teacher in the San Diego area would be Xavier Hicks, who has almost identical training and teaching techniques as my instructer. (They were pas de deux partners in their performing days.) He teaches at multiple studios in San Diego– California Ballet, Academy of Perfoming Arts, etc. Google him, he comes up in a lot. Hope thathelps you and good luck!

Xavier Hicks?! He was one of my teachers!! Is your teacher's name Jennifer Curry? I know he danced with her at California Ballet. Right now I am at a small studio and would like to change to a school that leads into a company, as I have already said before. I will check out city ballet; I've done a couple auditions there but never really looked into the school. Thank you both.

I've heard good things about Long Beach Ballet Arts and I really like their AD, David Wilcox. I'm not sure if this is a close enough drive to consider or not. Here is their website.

La Jolla to Long Beach would be quite a drive. Their training is excellent, but probably too far for daily classes.

There are two regional companies in San Diego and both have schools:

I know nothing about these schools but there might be someone else out there who does.

There is another great new school in the San Diego area.

San Diego Academy of Ballet has a beautiful facility and is run by Max and Sylvia (Poolos) Chernichev, both formally California Ballet principle dancers. It is very accessible by major freeways and is located in Mira Mesa. The teaching is excellent and the studio spaces are divine!

I think SDAB is worth a look! :D
