Daughters 10 & 13 Irish Step Dance. Are they too old to start ballet? And are there any schools South of Boston, MA that would accept them?

10 and 13 are fine ages to start. I would send my kids to the South Shore Conservatory in Duxbury.

I believe there are other ballet schools on the South Shore as well.

I am associated with this organization.

No! They're not too late to start ballet. However you may run into technical confusion stemming from the Irish.

Hi IrishMom,

I'm the parent of a nearly 13yr old ballet-obsessed daughter. She spent years at Boston Ballet in Norwell where she met some great teachers. Last year her favorite teacher left and opened her own school, South Shore Ballet Theatre in Hanover that was referred to above. She transferred there and LOVES it! In fact, they are getting ready to perform Coppelia this weekend at Milton Academy. There are all sorts of classes and abilities at SSBT - from beginning to serious to adult. 10 and 13 aren't too old at all I'd say! They do offer a teen class, as well as a Classical Ballet program for ages 8 and up. I think a few of the girls who are in the school are also irish step dancers and they do very well. They love both! I am biased since my daughter is dancing there, but it's for sure worth checking out:

Hope this info helps!
