I just registered after finding this cool site today. My wife and I started taking beginning ballet about six years ago. It has been challenging and more fun than I imagined to learn ballet as adults. Ballet is a great stress reliever for me and also rejuvenates my body, mind, and spirit. We moved here to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, in October, 2008 when my wife got a job at Colorado Mountain College. My career is school bus driving and bicycling across the USA every summer. I am taking intermediate ballet at the Aspen Sante Fe Ballet & School.

Welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers, TomThwaing; it's very nice to have you with us. How nice that you and your wife are taking ballet classes together! You'll find lots of kindred souls on the board, especially on our forum for adult ballet students; hope we can give you any information or encouragement you might need.

I think you stopped in and took class at my studio in Columbus, Ohio a few years ago! I talked to you briefly after class.
Welcome to BT4D, I know you and your wife will find it extremely helpful. |

Hi Gimpydancer! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Yes I was delighted to stop for three days and take five classes at the BalletMet in Columbus in late July, 2008. I loved your class and the best studio I had ever visited! In fact, a month later my wife applied for a job at Ohio State University so we could perhaps move to Columbus. At the same time she also applied for the job she now has at Colorado Mountain College. Last summer I also spent a week in Columbus on my 33rd bicycle trek across America. I did not get in any dance classes because I was staying with a family in Lancaster and busy visiting and even doing a funeral for a pet hamster of all things! I will see if can stop and take more classes at BalletMet next summer on my next bicycle journey.
I am not sure If I told you the theme of my bicycle journey in 2008 was, "Dance of Hope." After I left Columbus I had an incredible encounter with a young dancer named Hope when I was invited to dinner with her family. She has Down's Syndrome and yet when I watched her dance and saw her joy it made me cry when I found out that before she was born the doctor had asked her parents if they wanted to go ahead inspite of complications. I am so glad she was able to live and even dance. When I think about the providential way I met her it sends chills down my spine. But that is a story for another post. |
