Hi,
Not a great deal of difference really..................well not really. Dad of 2 boys, eldest at final year of Uni doing design and working hard. Youngest at vocational ballet school since 11, now 15 going on 16 and this academic year doing GCSE's, RAD exams and auditions for 6th form. So no pressure. Still only has a focus on being in a ballet company and living his dream. Couple of times on this site, will now dig deeper. My wife and I have no background in dance so feel that any details we can glean will help him (not that he seems to want or need it!) |

This seems to have slipped by the usual welcome wagon, and I just happened to check in here, so welcome! This is a great set of forums, knowledgeable, helpful , and well moderated. You'll find plenty of good advice here. And - as a dancing guy - thanks for supporting your sons!

Welcome Dreamthedream. My son's a year ahead of yours so we've "been there, done that" - please feel free to get in touch if you need any advice about auditions etc. It's a difficult time with GCSEs and auditions looming. Our advice to our son was to focus on the dancing until the auditions were out of the way, then get down to some serious revision. I know the exams are important, but if he wants to be a ballet dancer then the dance has to come first for now (exams can be retaken). (Obviously he had to work hard at his academics still too, but it's difficult to concentrate on both (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) )

Hello dreamthedream. We too have been there, done that. My DD was doing auditions & GCSEs last year and is now in Lower 6th at a Vocational School. It is a really hard time for the kids trying to fit in auditions and mocks. At least by the time the GCSEs come along everything will be decided - unless you are on a waiting list, but in that case there is nothing further to do except wait. Good luck - and do start a new thread if there is anything you need to ask, there are several UK people here who can help.

Hello, dreamthedream; you did indeed slip by the welcome wagon but here I am. Welcome to Ballet Talk for Dancers; we really are happy to have you with us. The above posters have pretty much summed up the situation. We hope you find information and encouragement on the board, and we commend you for the support you are giving your dancing son.
