While it is very early, but for parents who manage DK schedule it is never too early to plan ahead. YAGP website declares the schedule for 2014 is coming out in July but registration form has updated. So I assume these are new dates, otherwise, someone who know please revise. Another noted rule change is one-semifinal only per person rule (I don't remember seeing them in 2013):

"All participants may register for only one Regional Semi-Final per season, unless invited by the Artistic
Director and the staff of the Youth America Grand Prix".

Guess some discussions on this board have repercussions.

Dates on registration forms:

Tampa, FL Jan. 2 5, 2014
Philadelphia, PA - Jan 10 -12, 2014
Austin, TX - Jan 10 -12, 2014
San Diego, CA - Jan 17 - 19, 2014
Pittsburgh, PA - Jan 24 -26, 2014

Seattle, WA Jan. 31 - Feb 2, 2014
Dallas, TX Jan. 31 - Feb 2, 2014
Los Angeles, CA - Feb 7 - 9, 2014
Indianapolis, IN - Feb. 14 - 16, 2014
Denver, CO Feb 14 - 16, 2014

San Francisco, CA - Feb 21 - 23, 2014
Atlanta, GA Feb 21 - 23, 2014
Chicago, IL Feb 28 - Mar 2, 2014
Providence, RI Feb 28 - Mar 2, 2014

New York final dates are not listed yet.

With the Austin date so soon after Christmas break and the location so close to Dallas, I wonder how much it will reduce the Dallas numbers. i cant help wondering if Houston would have been a venue that could draw numbers even with the earlier date?

I also wondered why Austin instead of Houston.  I wonder what the Austin venue will be.

Regarding Austin over Houston as a venue: I know they had "difficulties" with the Wortham Center a few years ago when it was switched from Dallas. (Alternate venue was due to the Super Bowl in Dallas that year.) Wortham Center is a City of Houston Building and security is extremely tight! Even HBA SI students attending lessons there this summer must be escorted by an HB staff member to gain access to the Wortham studios and HB is a permanent tenant. My assumption is there is too much red tape and procedural requirements to make it an easy fit considering the amount of people using both front of house and backstage areas.

According to Shelley King email today, Austin or Houston is still to be decided. Providence date moves up to Feb.2-9. New York final is at April 3-10.

I hope they will seriously look at Houston because the numbers in Dallas are getting so large. Many studios travel from the Houston area to Dallas and it would be tempting for them to take the regional in their own backyard (no hotel, no travel). It would even catch some of the San Antonio and Louisiana crowd. Convenience and decreased travel expenses might make the earlier date less of an issue. Houston has a main airport with direct flights. Austin doesn't offer anything travel wise that Dallas doesn't have. YAGP would need to do something to advertise capping entry in Dallas and close it off after a certain (early) date, but that might already be the plan.

Houston does have venues other than the Wortham.  U of H's Cullen Theater and the Performing Arts Center in Stafford are two that come to mind.  (my fingers are crossed for Houston!!!)

Yes, the date is early, but on the other hand it would be nice to get YAGP out of the way before the SI audition season gets into full swing.  Last year, our studio had a ridiculously difficult time scheduling ensemble rehearsals due to everyone's SI auditions.

maybe they considered some of our feedback from this years YAGP. Limiting dancers to a single venue was near the top of our list!

Is this open to the public? Can you watch YAGP even if your child is not performing?
