We are going May 19th. I wanted to go the 21st but I am going on a NYC bus trip with my mom on the 22nd. Butler is 7 hours away from us so I couldn't make it work! Bummer! I did notice our girls met on Butler's admitted student page! I'm sure we will met along the way as well! I am on fb! Kristen Steinly (Don't know if I'm allowed to say that or put my name on here)! LOL

If you're going to orientation on April 21, be sure to stay and see Butler Ballet's spring production of Giselle. It runs April 21-23. You can get tickets online at https://butlerartscenter.org/event/giselle.

Congratulations again to those attending next year! Let me know if you have any questions. My DD will be a senior. Hard to believe really!!

My DD is starting in a week.  I do know that there are 41 incoming dancers, 7 being male.  They had said earlier that there were 411 auditions.  My DD applied in September and auditioned in January.  Butler is pretty generous on academic scholarships and they let you know with your acceptance.

This is on my DD's list as well. She has a friend starting there this year, and we're both looking forward to hearing how she likes it!

Thank you for the information on numbers and such. Unfortunately with traveling for auditions we will be unable to go to tour all the schools before hand to ask questions.

I am concerned a bit about academic acceptance. Knowing these dancers have to be accepted not only by their dance ability but their academic ability. She is a good student but not 4.0 exceptional. She works hard but school does not come as easy to her as some. Math is her biggest struggle. I guess we will see.

The application is live now.  I made a deal with my DD that I would pay for any application that she submitted before Labor Day.  Missed the deadline a bit, but all apps were in by 9/11.  We had answers as early as the next day!  Admissions counselors can give you an idea where you stand academically.

DD auditioned this past Friday.  My hubby took her to Indianapolis. There were about 30 dancers.  The day began with registration at 8am, followed by presentations by the Deans of the Jordan College of the Arts and the Department Chair, Larry Attaway.  Hubby says Mr. Attaway gave great information about the department, the audition process, etc.  DD then had an hour and 10 minute audition class, which she thought was very Vaganova based.  She is trained in a mixture of styles (classical) so she felt that it was just ok for her.  There was a period for lunch followed by afternoon technique classes by level.  I have no idea what the levels mean but DD was assigned to level 4.  (there are 1-4 levels) I'm also not sure as to how she was assigned because Level 4 was already printed on her registration packet when she arrived.  DD said there were sophomores and juniors in this level and this class went better for her then the first.   After the technique classes, there were sessions on Financial Aid and a tour of the dance facilities and a tour of the Butler campus.  It was a full day, ending at 5pm.  DD likes the traditional ballet program but is wondering whether there is enough modern and contemporary ballet to sustain her interest.  Hubby remarked that they watched a group of dancers rehearse a Paul Taylor piece.  Overall she enjoyed the experience and was glad to have auditioned.  Two auditions down, three to go!  Good luck to everyone!

Thanks Julisha.  Sounds like a really good audition.  The fact that they had several classes is really nice.  When they do the audition tour, I don't think they have anything other than just a 1.5 or 2.0 hour tech class.  Did she have any classes en pointe?

Lady Elle, everything was en flat. No pointe. I agree that it’s nice to not just audition among other prospective students but also current students.

Dancingjet, Lady Elle you are both welcome. The credit goes to my hubby because I could not attend. Good luck to your DKs!

One of my students went to the audition also. I will see her today to see how it went for her.

My youngest daughter years ago got accepted into this program. Back then they had to take 2 ballet classes back to back......

balletgirl22sk, I'm so glad that they changed it up and put in breaks between the classes.  Good luck to your student!
