Guest Medora
I have been working on what you told me Ms. Leigh about pulling up through my legs to not push back and I think I am starting to figure out how to do it, although I'm not doing it well yet by any means. I guess it just takes a while. But I haven't figured out yet how to do it while standing in releve, and especially on pointe. It seems so much harder to not push back on pointe! I think this must be part of why I have trouble balancing on one leg. Yet somewhere I have heard that hyperextended people have better balance. That doesn't make any sense. So when I am balancing on pointe or releve, is it the same concept, only more difficult? Also, when I am trying to balance on one leg, as I pull up in my legs I get a sensation like my arch is "bulging out" more on top, like I am going to push too far over. Why is that happening? Also, one of my teachers wants no space between the heels, and the other says that it is okay. Is it only in the first position that one leaves space? What about fifth? Sometimes I feel like I have trouble holding a tight fifth. Is that just turn out, or could my legs be affecting fifth? Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 21, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted March 21, 2003 Hyperextension can, and does, also affect the fifth position. It might be necessary to have a very small space between the heel of the front foot and the toe of the back foot. This is because the hyperextension causes the knees to bend if you force the legs too close together. As to the hyperextension on pointe, this is definitely a bit more difficult to control, but it is done the same way, by not straightening the knees to the point where they go back. It takes a lot more work with the quads and less with the knees. And, it takes time and patience to learn how to control this. But, you do seem to understand it, and that is definitely the first step! Just keep working at it Link to comment
Guest Medora
Thanks. Yeah, sometimes I feel like when I stand in fifth my legs are turned out but my front knee wants to bend, and thats why I was wondering. But I still try to close it all the way. I think I am beginning to get it, because I can definetly feel the difference and my quads are more tired after class! Especially after bare. Still it looks like its going to be a long slow process. That's okay, everything else has been so far! Link to comment
