Swanilda
I was very happy to get my acceptance for Washington Ballet's summer program. However, I will be one of the oldest ladies there, and I was placed in level 7, not level 8. Part of me wants very much to go and study at this excellent school, but I am at an age where I need to be looking for companies and traineeships. Should I take this placement as a sign that this is Washington is not the place for me, or should I take it as a sign that they think I have potential (that they wouldn't have accepted me at all at my age if I wasn't good), but that I have things to work on? Thanks very much. Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 29, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted March 29, 2003 Swanhilda, Level 7 is the highest level we have in the summer Link to comment
Swanilda
Well, I feel VERY stupid. Thank you very much, I'll see you in DC! Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Ms. Leigh is already off to work this morning, Swanilda, but I can tell you from observing at the school last year, that the level 7s are a very good bunch! If I had had a pocketful of contracts, I would have been raiding that class for dancers already or almost company-ready! (I'd have been unceremoniously thrown out on my ear, of course, but they sure did impress me!) You should have a good time in that class, and learn a lot! Link to comment
Swanilda
Thanks! I'm very exited, both about studying at the school and seeing DC, I've never been there for any length of time before! Link to comment
Guest twas a delight
Does placement in a summer program reflect how valuable you are as a dancer? Each intensive I've been to has stressed the non-importance of levels until "What matter is how much you learn and improve, not a level number" has been permanently drilled into my head! I still believe in this strongly, but maybe level does count...could someone clarify? Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 30, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted March 30, 2003 It is more significant for the older teens, as by the time they are nearing the end or at the end of high school, if they are not in the top level then it would be somewhat indicative that they are a long way from their goals in terms of performing professionally. Guest twas a delight
Thank you, Ms. Leigh, for your helpfulness and for the speed of your reply! Link to comment
JulieKfan
Hi, I was in level 7 at WSB last summer, and there were quite a few girls there that were extremely talented. The caliber of dancers was higher there than anywhere else I have gone in the summer. I think you'll enjoy it if you go, it was definitely a positive experience for me. By the way, Ms. Leigh, has the program already filled up? I have not yet sent in my application, because I'm still uncertain of where I am going! Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 31, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted March 31, 2003 I don't know if it's full yet at the 7 level or not, but if you plan to attend, I would suggest getting the application in very soon Link to comment
