Guest BroadwayDiva8
I've been thinking about going to either Marymount Manhattan College to major in dance or Butler University to major in dance. Does anybody know anything about these two colleges or have gone to them?? I'm just wondering if their dance programs are good (especially ballet programs). And any information that you have on them would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Butler has a great and long-standing program for ballet. They can boast of many distinguished alumni joining professional companies after matriculating there. Quote Link to comment

Guest BroadwayDiva8
Swanilda....is the dance program based on ballet and are the ballet teachers good? are there a lot of performance opportunities? and are the other dance students very well trained? is it hard to get into Butler? if you could answer these questions for me it'd be great! Quote Link to comment
Swanilda
Yes, Butler is VERY much a ballet program. The ballet teachers are wonderful and all very good, if different. We have 6, plus a WONDERFUL modern teacher. We do Nutcracker every year, plus Midwinter (when some modern pieces are performed) and a spring ballet. I have improved SO much being here. Everyone is very strong when they enter, and it is very competative. When you audition, you take two of our ballet classes and the faculty watches. It is pretty hard to get in, but if you have good strong technique, you have a good chance. HTH, and feel free to let me know if I can help you further! Quote Link to comment
Guest Dancergal92
My dance teacher studied at MMC, and she says it is big on ballet. She left there after a few years because she was never really into ballet, and finished studying at Hunter College. Being she never really took a more advanced level ballet class and still got into MMC, they must have seen in her that she could improve, because she still got in. This was also like 10 years ago, so they might have changed. Im not extremely sure about the details of the school, but i just thought i would let you know of what i do know. Quote Link to comment
Guest BroadwayDiva8
Thank you, dancergal. Swanilda I have another question (if you don't mind) how many dance classes do you take every day? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 22, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted April 22, 2003 BroadwayDiva, you have been here way too long to not know better than to use computerese or teenspeak on Ballet Alert! Please edit your post and write "you", not "u". I suppose trying to get everyone to use proper capitalization is hopeless, but we do try! Unfortunately, a lot of adults also refuse to use upper case, even for personal pronouns and beginnings of sentences, which does not help us in trying to get the young dancers to write correctly. Swanilda
We have ballet class everyday. Pointe is twice a week, etc. How many classes and what the classes are depends on your year. We average 4-5 classes a day plus rehearsals. For example, right now (as a junior), my Wed schedule would be dance history, theatre dance forms, ballet, pas de deux and acting. As a freshman, it would likely be something like body placement, jazz, ballet and pointe or something. Quote Link to comment
