Guest dance4life87
Okay well I have this problem it;s really the wierdest thing... When Ive been doing port de bras on the right side (right hand on the barre, Actually the port de bras back I feel the most painful pain in my back like a muscle and it's a sharp pain but then it goes away really fast. It's been happening a few times now and it's only on the one side . Do you know what this is and how I can fix it? Im like scared to do them on that side now because I don't want to do anything bad to myself. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Since it's asymmetric - that is, it only occurs on one side - this sounds like an injury of some sort, and most likely minor, of the nuisance variety. You can try making sure that you are maintaining your spine in as long as it can be, even in port de bras to the back. If it still hurts, then we're into the "Dr. Krankheit" remedy, to wit: DR: Ya say it hoits vhen ya doo dat? PATIENT: Yes! DR: Den don't doo dat! Just explain to your teacher, just the way you've done here, that you're experiencing pain and will be taking it easy when that particular exercise happens. Only take the port de bras as far as you can go without pain for awhile. Your teacher may even have an on-the-spot correction that helps! If it's been more than 72 hours since you first noticed this thing, then you're out of the acute phase. You can use an icebag followed by a hot water bottle or heating pad as a contrast application. Let us know how this problem is progressing. We care. Quote Link to comment

Guest thumpinhippo
I have a similar injury but i'm not sure how i got it. It's kind of a twinge in my lower left back, just above the hip. It doesn't particularly hurt in Port de Bras but i'm still careful so i don't make it worse. The problem is I think it's recovered then it comes back so now it's kind of an intermittent pain. Is yours the same dance4life? Quote Link to comment
Guest dance4life87
Well, the pain was so sharp that right when I would feel it, i would like immediately get up and kind of rub the muscle and then immediately it would be gone... But, now this week I've been taking it easy on the port de bras back on the left side and not bendind back very far just to be on the safe side so I don't know if the pain will still come back because I'm not going into my natural deeper port de bras. But I haven't felt the pain for about 3 days so I'm pretty sure it might be gone... When does yours start to hurt? Im ean, During what step or movement? Quote Link to comment
Guest thumpinhippo
What is really odd is that i'm not sure. I know i notice it more in jumps and a bit of port de bras but it's kind of always there. Sometimes it gets a bit better or i don't notice it. Quote Link to comment
