European vs. American Companies

Is there a large difference between the two? Is it more difficult to get into an American or European company, say? Do the large and well-known European companies not tend to do as many modern pieces as we Americans? I have heard that the POB is nearly impossible to get into because 99% of their dancers come from the POB school. Is this how all of the large companies over there are?

It really depends on the company. Some companies actively seek foreign dancers, while others are practically uncrackable, save for a principal dancing as a guest artist. Some European companies are far more experimental than US ones. Others try to keep a classical core repertoire of standards and are rather conservative by American standards. You have to research the companies by name to see what their artistic outlook is.
