Can anyone offer any information on the Ballet Academy East SI in August. I am considering this program as an option for August classes. Any information would be helpful.

I wanted to know what the schedule was like and if you got a lot out of the program. Really just any information would be helpful. I am sorry I am being so vague!

ok. i was 11 at the time ( the youngest they take) and i was in level 1. I believe we had 4 classes a day, but my memory is a little foggy. we had classes in chartacter, mat, variations, technique, pointe, and modern. I liked the si. it's very convienently located, lots of food places around there to run to for lunch, including a health food store next door. i liked most of the teachers. they have some rather well known ones, like Marcia Del Weary, Lordes Lopez, Olga Kotsritsky (from SAB), Peter Boal, and several others ( the mentioned didn't all teach level 1 though). It was nice having a bunch of different teachers, that helped me. they had two little seminar things. we had classes monday through friday about 4 a day with an hour or so break for lunch and about 15 minutes between classes. on saturday we had one class and a seminar. one was about pointe shoe fitting. they checked to make sure everyone's shoes fit properly. i'm sorry if this is not at all the info you wanted, but i didn't know. i don't remember too much, that was 3 years ago, but if you go, i hope that you have a good time. feel free to ask any more questions. :)

hm, i'm not sure. i don't know how old you are. it was good for me as a first si. but if you're older and just want some classes to keep you in shape, anything in your area would probabley do just as well.

I am very much looking to get some serious work done this summer and I thought this would be good to do in August. Thank you very much for you helpful answers - I will factor your replies into my decisions! Thanks again!:)

Hi Rachel,

I have also attended the August SI at BAE. It is avery good program and I felt like I got a lot out of it. It is however quite expensive for only 2 weeks. Close to $1000 which does not include housing or food, that may be a problem for a lot of people who live out of town. I was in one of the higher levels so if you have any more questions I would be happy to help!! The schedule changed from day to day but we always had at least 3 classes, most days 4. Always technique and pointe class and then the variations, pas de deux, modern, pilates and character classes would depend on the day. I will try to help if I can!

I was wondering if you could tell me where you stayed. Would a hotel be better in this situation and if so, are there any good ones in the are. Also, do they factor age into level placement? Thanks!:)

They have a website that might help you out also.

www.balletacademyeast.com

Graded Level Ballet Summer Programs

SUMMER INTENSIVE

World-renowned teachers and dancers are in residence for this program designed for intermediate and advanced-level students ages eleven and up. An audition is required.

It's located on the Upper East Side. Which is a good area. There are many hotels, but you might be better off trying to get an apartment sublet.

Good luck!

I can't really help you with housing because I live in the area so I stayed at home!!! You should call and talk to them though, they will probably be able to help you out and they might also be able to connect you with someone else from out of town who needs housing. A lot of people I know sublet apartments in the summer so that might work!! The believe the levels were done mostly by ability.

Thanks for your help - my first summer in NY my mom rented an apartment so we are familiar with subletting. The SI is still in the works so we aren't sure about what we will doing. Thanks a lot though:)

Hello, I actually go to Ballet Academy East, so I think I will be able to provide a lot of information about the program for you! I went to the BAE summer program and I loved it so much that I am now there year round.

The teachers are great, Darla Hoover, the Artistic Director is amazing. I will list the teachers on my "brochure", some of them I did not have so don't count on having them all: Maxim Belotserkovsky, Irina Dvorovenko, Olga Dvorovenko, Stacy Caddell, Peter Frame, Rafael Grigorian, Alan Hineline, Darla Hoover, David Howard, Anita Intrieri, Julie Kent, Francis Patrelle, Barbara Sandonato, Cheryl Yeager, Jonathan Riseling (modern), and Wendy Amos and Ana Louisa Baptista (pilates).

I actually forget my own schedule from the summer but I know that we always had technique and pointe/variations and then we also had pilates, modern, character and partnering. The teachers, some more than others (as in any studio), are amazing. As for housing, I live close enough not to have that problem so I cannot help you there. BAE is on top of three great food stores, which is actually very nice! You have to wear a black leotard and pink tights; no warmups. You do have to audition and the application fee is $20, and the tuition is $880.

I hope I helped! If you have any more questions I might be able to gelp you but If you really want to do this, I would call them.
