Discrimination?

I've heard a lot of mentions on the net about this website being "snooty" and "we're not like them", but I didn't understand what they meant. I've only gotten very sound, strong, professional advice. Does anyone have thoughts?

I can't speak for the mindset of others, but if we're known that way, then we must be a threat to somebody. Besides, do you see many ballet websites, particularly American ones, recommending the work of others? Ballet.co is UK, so they are decidedly more polite than most others.

I enjoy this board a lot - mainly because it´s strictly moderated and good and professional advice is given. I am a member to many ballet/dance boards but on most of them there are a lot of people who shouldn´t be there. I think most of you will know what I talk about. Even worse - there is hardly anything you can do about it because they tend to have good computer knowledge ... sorry for my rant.

Attitudegirl, what they mean on those boards is that we are "snooty", and that they are not like us because they are not on a moderated board and they can say anything and everything they want, about anything and everything, and in any way they like, and there is no one to enforce any kind of rules or tell them they can't talk about that. So, yes, we are different, and that, IMO of course ;), is what makes us both different and far better. But then I'm prejudiced! :) We want this to be a place where Young Dancers can LEARN something, and that includes even how to write correctly, not in computereez or teenspeak! And we don't allow subjects which we feel are potentially dangerous to discuss without someone who is a professional in that subject. Therefore, we do not appeal to those teens who just want to have their say about something, and who do not like following rules. Of course these students are not well-trained, serious ballet students, or they would not be that way! ;)

Yes, I never realized there wasn't a moderator before. I would think that everyone would be grateful to get such professional advice. It's like being able to pick your minds. I've said it before, but we really appreciate ya'lls time.:)

It's what we all "signed on" to do, at Alexandra's invitation, but it's good to know that our efforts are appreciated.:)

People usually only say bad things about something that is good when they are in competition with it and want to do better with it, therefore I agree with Mel!

P.S. --- as everyone has said, you ARE all great, and whatever is going around is just "talk" and not truth (and for one thing, I haven't heard it around, so it hasn't gone very far)

Thanks Jen; fortunately we don't see ourselves as being in competition with anyone. We just do the things we do, and in the way we do them, and the people who like it that way hang with us, and form online friendships. We think it's best that way, and thank you and all the rest of you for choosing to stay with us.
