Guest PointeShoeRibbons
I have never partnered aka never done a pas de deux. Will it be hard for me to catch up when it comes time to do Cinderella, or the Nutcracker this year and I am totally clueless. Also, is it more complicated then going solo? Please reply with some experiences of your own etc. Thanks, PointeShoeRibbons:confused: Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
It's not more difficult than solo work, nor is it easier. There are just two of you doing it, that's all. You are not allowed to make your partner do your work for me - "turn me" "lift me" - but you are expected to coordinate with him to make the movements harmonious for the two of you together. It is trickier in that you can't wiggle, especially in lifts, and you have to realize that your partner is like binary code. Either he's there (1) or he isn't (0). The big job that the two of you have is to make sure that all the 1s and the 0s are in their proper places. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted May 19, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted May 19, 2003 If you expect to be doing pas de deux work in major ballets during this coming year I think it would be a very good idea if you could get some partnering classes before the rehearsals begin. Are you attending a Summer Intensive this year where you will have partnering classes? Editing to add: I just read in another post you made that you will be getting your first pointe shoes soon. I think it would be quite premature for you to be doing pas de deux in performances this year. Quote Link to comment
Guest PointeShoeRibbons
I was really just curius, but I will be going to a summer intensive, and will be in the upcoming Nutcracker or Cinderella ( i'm not sure which my school is choosing to do). How advanced do you have to be to learn how to do a pas de deux, and do they teach these steps to you in a regular class or do you have to go out of your way to find one? Thank you -sorry about the earlier partnering post, i guess it made me sound very advanced PointeShoeRibbons Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted May 20, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted May 20, 2003 Partnering classes are usually only given for the top one or two levels in a professional school. It is highly unlikely that you will be needing them for a little while yet, if you are just starting pointe work! Quote Link to comment
Guest Casey_Brinkley
In my experiences I've found that it isn't any easier or harder the going solo!! It takes practice, and LOTS of it, to cordinate with your partner and learn to read off of him!! Don't worry you'll get it eventualy!! Good Luck! Quote Link to comment
Guest twinklehooves
Pas de duex/partnering is soooo much fun. I love it!!! You have to know both parts for the pas de duex to go well tho. Like, you have to know your partners part too, that way you both connect and it's all in unison. Quote Link to comment
