Backache

Miriam

Recommended Posts

My lower back is hurting on the left side... I suppose I pulled a muscle or made a weird move, but I don't really know, it was just hurting at one point...

I put Tiger Balm on it when I went to sleep, put it's still hurting now... Anybody any advice on what to do?

Since it's not bilateral, that is, the same on both sides, I'd say your analysis of the cause is probably generally correct. The back is just like any other part of the body when it becomes injured, the first aid is Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Now, compression may be a little tricky, if you haven't got a corset around,;) but you can do a wrap with an elastic bandange that can help; you can even "weave" a criss-cross support for it using strips of wide adhesive tape. Elevation can be a little frustrating, too. Just lie down. It's also good for resting!;) If the pain doesn't go away after about 72 hours, then call in the professional - go to the doctor.

You may also use over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications to help with the situation, like Tylenol, Naproxen sodium, Rufen, or since you're over 18, plain old aspirin.

Thanks for the advice Mel... I took some Ibrufen and a hot shower, massaged it a bit with the water, and it feels way better!

I really wanted to take a balletclass today :-(
