Guest Medora
This is kind of a stupid question because it really doesn't affect me, but I have always been curious to know, can short girls are really tall guys dance together? Like I am at about 5' 3", but my partner is 6' something, very, very tall, much taller than me and we hit it off great! But let's say, hypothetically, that we were in the same company together one day, one we be allowed to dance together because of the difference in height? As short as I am I don't think I'll ever have to worry about being too tall. Does height matter that much in partnering? See, I told you it is kind of a trivial question, but it has my curiousity. Mel Johnson
That's not a problem. Just think if you and your partner were the other way 'round, heightwise - THEN there'd be a problem! Quote Link to comment
Guest ballerinababe88
is 5'7" too tall for a ballet dancer who wants to do partnering? What is the limit? thanks. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted June 18, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted June 18, 2003 No, 5'7" is not too tall, but you do need a partner at least 6', preferably even taller, and therein lies the problem because there are not too many around. But there are some female dancers in most companies who are of that height. Quote Link to comment
balletstar811
Yeah, look at Julie Kent- she is a tiny bit taller than Ethan Steifel when shes on pointe! She sure is a successful tall female dancer! Quote Link to comment
Guest ballerinababe88
thanks that makes me feel a little better! Quote Link to comment
fLexNpOinte
Hello! 5'7 seems short compared to me! HaHa. ;) I am 5'11. I really enjoy being tall because you draw more attention in auditions and classes (which can be a good or a bad thing ;)). One teacher at a summer intensive told me that when you are extremely tall, you need to be an extremely good dancer because you are obviously going to stand out. ;) Hopefully, I will develop into a better dancer and be more comfortable with standing out. HaHa. Don't let your height affect your confidence about your abilities to dance. There is a female principal in the Pacific Northwest Ballet that is 6'2. I hope that inspires you because it certainly inspired me. Good Luck! Quote Link to comment
SwanQueen
A question for one of the moderators: I've heard lots of different opinions about this, but what is basic difference in height you should have between you and your partner. Like about what heights would a guy that is 6'1" be partnering? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted June 26, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted June 26, 2003 Actually, I don't really know the numbers on this one, SwanQueen. It's more a matter of who looks right with whom. Sometimes a tall female dancer has a small bone structure and really does not look like a tall dancer. In that case she might be able to work with a partner who is shorter than another female dancer her same height but with a different structure might be able to do. A lot also would depend on the length of the feet and the arms. I really don't think there is a way to place an exact number or rule about it. You can look at one dancer with a partner and see it is fine, and another and see it is not fine. It is not really measured. Quote Link to comment
