Guest Jaime
I AM ADDICTED TO TOE TAPE! My feet are so prone to having tape when I do pointe...I have once heard a rumor that your feet (calacus) won't bulid up if you use it...WHAT SHOULD I DO?!? Does it make a difference? (((WHen I where tape I don't get any blisters...but when I don't....well you can imagine))))) Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted June 20, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted June 20, 2003 Jaime, I think most dancers use some taping these days, and I doubt that there is anything wrong with doing that if it helps not to get blisters. Don't worry about the callus, as they will probably develop anyway Now, about your post. I know you are new here, so I will correct your post for you. fLexNpOinte
Hello Jaime! Several years ago, when I was in my first few weeks of pointe, I used to use toe tape on ALL of my toes (NOT very helpful). HaHa. ;) That was also when I was using gel pads in my pointe shoes. However, a teacher at a summer intensive recommended that the class try using handywipes in their pointe shoes instead of gel pads and tape. This little "experiment" worked! The skin on my feet quickly became much "tougher" and I was able to do pointe work with no tape! It was such a relief to not have to set aside extra time to tape my toes. It worked to cut down on padding and eliminate taping for me. I occasionally get blisters, but only when I try a different brand of shoes. I still use tape with brand new shoes, but certainly not on every toe. You should stick with whatever works for you! Good Luck! Link to comment

Guest attitude
dancingostrich, if you want to get off the toe pads you might want to start with paper towels (maybe that's what handywipes are) and then use less layers as your toes becomes more calloused (or increase its pain barrier!).
