Mel Johnson
Hi, DBR and welcome to Ballet Talk here on Ballet Alert! Online! The rule for practicing a split for a complete beginner is simple. Don't go down too far. When you're just starting stretches, there is a "stretchy" feeling and and "OW" feeling. When you feel that you're about to go over into actual pain, just "sit out" of the split. Bend your back leg and make a jazz split out of it. There's no sense in hurting yourself, and about half of ballet is teaching the student how not to hurt himself. Quote Link to comment
