Guest Lukayev
Hello hello, After much talk and discussion with the 'rents, we have decided to not send me away to UBA for the upcoming school year this fall. Now, I decided to tell this to my teachers here in Hawaii, and to the Summer Intensive teachers here that are visiting. Surprisingly, they all patted me on the back and said they were glad "[Christina] isn't going to that school... they're too slow!" !! Well, seeing as two of our SI teachers danced at City Ballet waaay back (Robert and Virginia Barnett) and all of them are quite fond of Balanchine repertoire/technique, I guess something like old-school Kirov training would seem on the slower side. Anyway, I talked with Mr. and Mrs. Barnett about options for future ballet schooling and they seemed to heap on the praise for the SF Ballet School. Later on, my other SI teacher (Maria Vegh) also came up to me and said I should give their SI a try next summer. ....Now, I'm not all too familiar with SFBS or the actual company, but aren't they on the Balanchine side? I've never had the experience of an actual full-on Balanchine class, so I'm thinking that once they see me on video not overcrossing my tendus and such, they won't ever look my way again. Some feedback would be helpful to meee! Link to comment
CDM
What did they mean by "too slow"? I think they were refering to the style of dance rather than the repididity with which the syllabus is presented. Am I correct in my thinking? Thanks...Doug. Link to comment
Mel Johnson
SFB used to be far more in the Balanchine camp than they are now. They've evolved their own style rather closer to the Balanchine of the '60s than of what came later, or of what's at NYCB/SAB now. Link to comment

Ed McPherson
Lukayev- I'd like to agree with Mel. It seems to me SF has been exploring other style. One of the men's teachers for the ballet school Jorge Esquivel is Cuban. It seems to me that Helgi Tommason has a respect for milti-deminsional training and dancers. Link to comment
Guest Lukayev
Thank you thank you for the feedback! And you there, balletQUEEN. You DOG, going to UBA when you know I had to bow out. Makes me sick to my intestines. I hope you have the experience of a lifetime over there - otherwise I'll pummel you! Taa Link to comment
