wooden floor

If my wood floor is just over 2 inches thick, is it safe to practice leaps and jumps on? I don't know what's under that, but I don't think it's cement. :ermm:

It's not so much how thick the floor is, it's more a question of whether it's been surfaced with varnish and even waxed. If so, it's not a good idea to work on it. The classic wooden ballet floor is not waxed or surfaced, simply planed and sanded down to perfect smoothness. The old rule of building such floors was either hard over soft or vice versa. In other words, hardwood was laid over softwood joists, or pine or fir was laid over oak beams.

Thanks Mr. Johnson! I'll have to find out what kind of wood was used on my floor :ermm:
