thedancingpineapple
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but its been bothering me for a while. I'm 13, and I'd love to dance professionally, but this dream might be just that, a dream. Anyway, for a 13-year-old, what level of technique should I have? I know that's usually different from person to person. But, in general, what abilities should I have, or what should I work for? Any input would be great. Oh, and I've been on pointe for 2 1/2 years. Any comments are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 15, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted August 15, 2003 Dancingpineapple, I really don't think one can specify a level of technique in this format, or in writing. There really aren't any exact quidelines or specifications spelled out anywhere for a particular age. In a 13 year old what one would look for first would be physical facility and potential. Exactly what steps one can do are not as important as the ability to learn and the potential to do them well ultimately. One would also look for evidence of good training. Have you auditioned for any SI's, and if so, have you been to any? Your acceptance and level placement in these programs can tell you a lot about where you are in terms of technical level. If you do not get accepted to the programs you audition for, then it might be because you do not have enough training, or good enough training, or the right physical facility. If you do get accepted, and you attend the program, it should give you some clue as to where you stand in the overall picture of professional level training. Quote Link to comment
thedancingpineapple
Thank you Ms. Leigh! I'll have to work very hard this year to improve my technique. Next summer, I'd love to audition for the CPYB SI with a friend of mine, she's a student of yours, I don't think you'd want me putting her full name on the net, but her last name is Naylor. she wanted me to say hi to you. Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 15, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted August 15, 2003 Actually, I don't think one has to audition for CPYB. It might be a good idea for you to do some other auditions, just to see where you are. Quote Link to comment

Marenetha
Yes, you don't have to audition for CPYB. I just checked their website. ~ Amanda ~ Quote Link to comment
