Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 15, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted August 15, 2003 Hello mixiedancer, and welcome to the Young Dancer's forum here on Ballet Alert! Online Popping hips are not a big problem unless they hurt. In your case, at 13, it very well could be because you are growing and your alignment is a bit off. Be very sure that you are placed correctly and that the hips are aligned and the weight properly forward. Keep your leg, especially in side positions, well inside your control zone and don't push for too much rotation right now. Quote Link to comment
Guest mixiedancer
Thank you for your response. I will try to apply your suggestions. Quote Link to comment
Guest five6seveneight
i had that problem for a long time! if your problem is your side extension, it helps a lot to bring your leg forward a little so that you can turn it out more, until you can bring it all the way to the side. good luck! Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 16, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted August 16, 2003 ummm, five6seveneight, I believe that is what I just said in the post above yours. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Also, to reiterate, that hips that pop, but don't hurt, are nothing to worry about. At thirteen, they are not necessarily dangerous if they pop and hurt either, but if you experience persistent pain, then the doc is the next step. As for any other popping, it can lay down a rap beat, and it still won't qualify for a trip to the doc. You might hire yourself out to a rap group, though, as percussion. After all, if Baryshnikov can dance to his own heartbeat.... Quote Link to comment
Guest JRSDANCER87
Mine used to pop in passé position, and hurt. I went to my doctor and they said it was probably that my bones were growing and the ligaments hadn't quite caught up yet. With ice and an extreme amount of stretching out, it went away in a month or so...feel better! Quote Link to comment
Guest JRSDANCER87
Mixiedancer, I had a very painful hip-popping incident in class today! Different from the one I had years ago, though. WHat is your pain like? As Mr. Johnson said, mine popped (perhaps out of place or something) when I put it in passé position today, and then it hurt every time I put it there again, but did not pop. I think I might be using those mucsles too much, or something...not sure. How is your hip? Quote Link to comment
Guest mixiedancer
the poping dose not usally hurt but a few days ago i did something and now my hip hurts whenever i stretch. could it be because i have been taking a intensive of 4 classes a day. i dont know. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Now, that sounds like plain old fatigue. You're overworking. Take it easy. You won't be doing anybody, least of all yourself, any favors by grinding yourself to powder in an intensive. Reduce your class schedule, or even STOP (horrors!) for a couple of days.
