Niphredil
I'm 17 years old, and have been dancing since I was seven, mostly showdance/jazz. I started ballet a couple of years ago, and really fell in love with it. Now, I have to decide what to really go for, ballet or jazz. I guess that there's no big chance for me to be a ballerina, but how about jazz? Is it a plus to have a classical training in jazz dance, or have I wasted time and money on my ballet classes? And do you know any good jazzcompanies in US and Europe? I'd be really thankful for answers! Christina Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted September 3, 2003 Administrators Report Share Posted September 3, 2003 Niphredil, classical training, if it is good training, is never wasted! The best dancers of jazz and just about everything else have a classical base. Link to comment
Mel Johnson
There are few enough ballet companies, but jazz companies are even fewer and farther between. And no, your ballet training will not be wasted if you pursue a jazz career. Most jazz dancers, because of a lack of companies, have to scramble for performing opportunities (jobs) in musicals and other stage shows, so you're really constantly on the audition trail. Niphredil
Thank you! Your repiles were really helpful! I just have one more question When are you too old to be accepted at a company? (both ballet and jazz) Edited September 3, 2003 by Niphredil Link to comment
Mel Johnson
When you are so old that the iron in your blood turns to lead in your pants, you're too old. Until then, hang in there!!! Link to comment
