Water blisters

Two days ago I discovered two rather large water blisters on the bottoms of my heels. I don't know exactly what caused them but it could have been from standing around in pointe shoes a lot in rehearsal on Saturday. This has never happened to me before, though, so I'm not sure. The area started hurting me in contemporary on Tuesday (stung when I stepped on it...and we did a lot of walking in that class), but the actual blisters didn't appear until that night. One is between the size of a nickel and quarter and the other is slightly smaller. They aren't causing me a lot of pain but are a little uncomfortble when I'm standing or walking (haven't really danced with them yet) because I can feel the fluid moving around inside. :) So the question is, should I drain them or just wait and see what happens (go away or open by themselves). I'd rather not have them rip open in rehearsal or class tomorrow, but I also don't want to expose them to dirt and germs. I know the sterile needle with thread trick to drain them, but I wanted to wait to see if this is the thing to do. If so, wouldn't it be better to leave the skin until it dries out? Thanks so much. :)

It's best to keep the area of the blister very clean, and as dry as possible to allow the water to be reabsorbed by the body and the blister will pretty well repair itself. If it opens by itself through normal wear and tear, just continue to keep it clean and dry. I'm dealing with one right now, and that's all I'm doing. It's dried out, and the lifted-up area of the blister worn off, so it's dry and painfree.

Thanks and will do! I'm so grateful for the expert advice. I didn't know that the body can reabsorb the water, but that makes sense. (I should have thought of that when a blister I had once disappeared! :) ) Is there any approximate time that you think they'll take to dry up? How long have you had yours, Major Johnson? Thanks again. :)

Anything I can do to get the pressure off the blisters? They haven't gotten any smaller and the larger one has started to hurt quite a bit when I step on it! :wallbash: Any ideas or do I just have to wait it out. I'm trying not to compensate when I walk so I don't mess with my alignment, but it hurts! :ermm:

If you can't stand a 2X2 gauze bandage directly over it, there is a precut blister shield ("donut") that fits around the blister, and takes the pressure off it. If you can't find this product at a pharmacy, then take moleskin or adhesive foam and make your own.

At the time I wrote, I had been three days into a blister. Now it's six days and the thing is just plain gone now.
