hello, I am from Europe and I want to applay to american universityto study dance. Do you maybe know what are the most important criteria for acceptance? I am sure that my parents could not pay me university, do you maybe know how could I get a scholarship? I mean is it given only to the dancers that are incredibly good or also to the usual ones? I noticed that there are more deadlines for sending them applications, which one do you think is the best to choose? Which colleges do you recomend?

I see that you have major/minor system. I have a wish to study medicine and dance. Has anyone already experienced that or maybe knows well what is possible when studying dance and what is not?

thanks,sl.

Ziva, here is at least a place to start online finding out about student aid available to the International Student from the US government. You may want to make an appointment with the US Embassy or Consulate to find out more details of aid available for students who want to come to America to study. You should do some research, too, as to WHICH school you wish to attend, as they will often have various programs in dance, some of which are heavily ballet, and others which are not. The individual schools, and the states in which they are, may also have aid programs designed for the International Student.

ziva, Indianna and Utah have strong dance departments. The other colleges you mention do not. Check out University of Oklahoma, SUNY Purchase, SMU, and Butler.

However, Columbia DOES have a wonderful medical school (take it from a satisfied former patient at their teaching hospital). And it puts you in New York City so that you can take advantage of the independent ballet schools there.
