hello,

i was wondering what a "normal schedule" for an advanced level ballet student would be. i am just curios because i'v been dancing for 10 years and i'v been at the same studio the whole time and wanted to know how my class load equals up to other studios. i take 11 class's a week, 8 technique 1 modern 1 pas de duex and 1 strength class.

That sounds like quite a good schedule, and certainly quite enough for a student dancer, tdancer! Our male dancers here have 5 regular technique and 3 mens' classes, plus a modern and a jazz. Usually there are a couple of pas de deux classes, however there are not enough males this year, so they have more mens' classes instead.

I live at Nutmeg ballet conservatory so my schedule is probally not normal but I take 10 technique classes a week, 7 pointe classes, partnering, rep., and tons of rehersals each evening.

I take 8 technique (1-2 en pointe per week) in addition to demonstrating for 2 younger level classes, 5 pointe classes, 1 modern, 1 jazz, 1 just for fun hip-hop, and 1 improvisation!

I am 18 and new to dance and I currently take 3 technique classes and a pas de deux class. I have recently started rehearsals and they usually run about 1 to 1.5 hours a week. Nothing like jumping right in!

Gosh I feel really embarassed :blushing: about saying this, but I do 2 technique classes a week, one pointe, one contempory, one tap and once a month I have a private class for half an hour. Doesn't seem like much does it!?

 Speaking of feeling embarrassed- I only take 3 technique classes a week, plus one modern, and soon, one pointe. I really wish I could do more, but I don't think the rest of my life could handle that, and I know our budget couldn't. Right now we're rehearsing for Nutcracker also, so I usually have 2 hours on Friday and two on Saturday for that. Still, I feel like theres so much more I sould be doing. :blushing: Ah well. I practice at home when I can, and that will have to do for now.

ok...i'm an apprentice at a professional ballet company and I take 2 1/2 pointe classes a week, 1/2 a technique (i take the barre of a company class on pointe then the center on flat). I then have three two hour rehearsals a week. Our company has four technique classes and three pointe classes a week with 3 or 4 two hour rehearsals.

Hello CBlilsnowflake, and welcome to Ballet Alert! Online

I'm a little confused by your scedule. Do you take all of the classes you listed in the post, or just the ones at the beginning of the post? Also, you say this is a professional company, which generally means that the dancers are paid on an annual contract. Dancers in a professional company generally have a daily class, followed by about 6 hours of rehearsal, so your description of the company is also a bit confusing. An apprentice with a professional company would be finished with high school and working full time as a dancer. Is it possible that this is a civic level company, meaning primarily students, with perhaps some quest professionals for major roles?

I take 5 hours of technique, 2 1/2 hours of pointe, 3 hours of tap, 1 hour of jazz, and modern when I can. I assist ballet, tap, and musical theatre, and I'm in a show that has dance rehearsals for 2-3 hours per night.

Monday - Technique + Pointe: 1.5 hrs.

Tuesday - Technique + Pointe: 3 hrs.

Wednesday - Technique + Pointe: 1.5 hrs.

Thursday - Technique + Pointe: 1.5 hrs.

Saturday - Competition Practice: 1.5 - 2 hrs.
