Guest Until The End Of Time

Just trying to get people talking and relaxing and sharing stories, forgive me if I seem too pushy :D .

So anyways why did you get into Ballet? I'll tell mine.

I got into Ballet, because I wanted to do more than just Tap, and Tap was the same old same old all the time. It was getting boring, and I didn't want to quit dancing. So walking around in Walmart I came across this movie called "Billy Elliot", it was $5.96, so I was like ok I'll get it since its about dancing and I haven't seen no other dancing movie besides Dirty Dancing, Center Stage, and SaveThe Last Dance. So as I was watching this movie ( Billy Elliot), He reminded me of me when I was younger and starting Tap when I was 3. He was so full of life and all about Ballet, and so observative and so into it, just like a moth drawn to a flame. I figured ok, I'll try it out. Next thing I knew I loved it and been hooked ever since. So I owe it to Steven Daldry for producing the movie Billy Elliot and Jamie Bell (he stars as Billy Elliot) for giving me hope again. So if anyway anyone affliated to those two people I mentioned please thank them for me. Ok, if you want to share your story go for it. :P now its quiet and its your turn to talk at the big round table of Ballet.

I saw Center Stage, the summer before i started grade 8, and it inspired me to dance. I wish I had started earlier, but Evelyn Hart started at 14, and I started at 13 so i aspire to be like her. I've already reached the senior level at my school.

My parents put me in creative movement when I was three years old. I never really asked them why, but think it had something to do with the fact that all the other little girls my age were doing it, too. (Peer pressure even applies to parents.) I don't think they expected me to fall in love with it and declare very shortly after that I wanted to be a ballerina when I grew up. I never did change my mind about that.

I first started ballet when I was three. My family was new in town, and the first other parent that my mum met had a little girl who did ballet, so my mum sent me along too! After about 5 years I started to do jazz, and then 2 years later started tap and modern. This year I started contempory. So that is the story of how I started ballet.

I don't really remember if my mom signed me up or if i wanted to, but i took a year of ballet when i was five. I was really bad, I couldn't jump or anything. So I never went back, and then we moved so I forgot about it. Five years after that I went to see the Nutcracker with my girl scout troop and I feel in love with ballet again. I tried to convince my mom to let me take lessons again, but she always said "maybe some other time", so I gave up on it for a while again. Five years after that I asked if i could take lessons and she gave me the same thing, "maybe some other time". I tried to find local community classes that weren't that expensive, because I just wanted to dance, but I was too old for all of them. Finally luck won out for me, we moved about four months ago, and by chance we live right next to a ballet studio. We also live next to a YMCA, so when my brother decided he wanted to do karate, I told my mom I wanted to do ballet. Since we live right across the street she let me, and now I'm in my third month of being an advanced beginner at the age of 16. Sure I have to take classes with kids my brothers age who are half my height but it is the funnest thing in the world. I'm totally hooked.

Like most of the others, when I was three my mother placed me in a preschool dance class at a dolly dinkle school that her friends daughter was dancing at. I danced there until I was 12 when I quit because It wasn't any fun anymore and the main instructor wasn't letting me advance(or as much as I could in the school--it wasn't very good. It was very much competition based) like I should've. Then three years ago I wanted to take dance again and we found a small school that's just perfect for me. It's a small pre-pro theater school where I'm in the most advanced classes. Well, except jazz and tap, I'm only in the second highest in those. It may not have a pre-pro ballet program, but for my needs it's more then adequate, and I'm getting excellent training. :grinning: I love it there! Ballet is awesome--even if I'mnot relly any good at it. :grinning: But ehh, whatever, I'm having a good time.

well, my mom made me take my first class - a little ballet/tap class at the neighborhood rec-center. I didn't want to, but after the first class i loved it and was hooked forever! (i was prob about 6-7 at this time) pretty soon I moved to a non-dolly-dinkle school, and, well, here i am to this day! :D
