Performing while Sick

I have come down with something, possibly/probably the flu, and I'm pretty sick. I can't decide whether I'm cold or hot:blushing:, I shake, and I have a temperature of 99 (yes, I know that sounds low, but my normal temperature is closer to 96 than it is to 98). I also have absolutely zero energy and my throat hurts too much to swallow anything but drinks (chocolate milk at the moment). This of course means no tylenol cause I can't even think about swallowing it. The problem is, I have a performance on Sunday, for which I have no understudy for flowers. I am definitely not going to dress rehearsal tomorrow, cause I don't want to give it to the entire cast, and I probably won't go on Saturday either, depending on how I feel tomorrow. We've put in an e-mail to the doctor, so I may go in to see her. The pressing question is, though, do I perform or not? Reed Flutes, which has several potential understudies and choreography that's as simple as can be, would be fine with only two people. There's absolutely nothing in it that requires all three of us. Flowers, on the other hand, really does rely on having me...I'm a lead and all the spacing depends on having a full cast. Of course, they cast one understudy, who isn't on pointe. I guess they assumed that neither of the leads would be getting sick or injured. At the moment, even on tylenol, I wouldn't have enough energy to make it through the entire dance and I don't get to go offstage at all during the dance. Any suggestions?

Doc is a great idea! And don't forget, they make liquid Tylenol!

Not such a great fan of the taste though...I guess it might be a good idea but my stomach is just unsettled enough...

Mint does actually happen to be one of my favorite flavors too. I am going to go to the doctor, as soon as they call back with an appointment time. I was also able to take some Advil this morning but it didn't really help much. We'll see what the doc says.

As it turns out, it's strep, so I'm getting 10 days of antibiotics. The doctor said that I can perform on Sunday assuming I feel good enough, but that I probably shouldn't dance full out in the rehearsal tomorrow, and maybe just sit and watch. We'll see what happens.

Ugh, I hate performing while sick. But the show must go on... I remember one year I had a fever of about 103 come performance weekend. I didn't go to dress rehearsal so I could save my energy and keep my germs to myself, and my mom stayed backstage the entire performance and pumped me full of Tylenol and liquids every time I came backstage. Somehow I got through it. :P
