leather ballet slippers?

I've heard some people say that they like leather ballet slippers better than canvas ones because you have to work through your foot harder and more in a leather shoe than you do in a canvas one. Is this true? The last time I had leather shoes was in 4th or 5th grade, so I can't remember having to work very hard on my feet in them, but I was just wondering about that...

For my money, the uppers really don't matter. It's the soles that provide resistance. Technique shoe uppers are only a little stiffer than glove leather.
