Ballet technique for the male dancer

I just saw this book on Amazon for 150 dollars! I have a copy somewhere, as does my local library. If you see a copy in a used book store, grab it quick!

The book was written by Nicholai Ivanovitch Tarasov & N. T. Finogenova .

The translation from Russian is OK, but could be better. Last published in 1985.

If you can find it less expensive, go ahead. $150 seems a bit high for it, but it's one of THE basic books.

I can get my college to order it, if I recommend it they will order it. Should I or not? I mean its a pricey book, and they have a few ballet books on men, but nothing on their techniques. Just famous Male Ballet danseurs, and women, and how to do certain things and how to understand ballet better, etc. But definitly nothing on Male Ballet technique.

If you mean the library, go ahead, but it's WAY out of print. I doubt they would be able to get a copy otherwise.

If you can buy the book at amazon.com , they can order it. They won't have any problem ordering it.

Knock-knock! Sorry it is difficult to follow this thread in two forums, but I thought this information might be helpful. I have ordered a number of these books, N. Tarasov, Ballet Technique for the Male Dancer, from Amazon. Although they have eventually arrived, sometimes it can take as long as six months to a year! Since the book is out of print they do a search of those who are interested to sell. The last one I bought from Amazon, 2 years ago, I paid $70.00 plus shipping. We also have a used book store here in Boca Raton that had it for just about that price! Although $150.00 is a steep price, I would imagine they have gone up in the past 2 years.

I would not waste your time or money on Amazon. Just because they list this book doesn't mean they have it in stock. They get bids then go searching for it. I found my copy on-line through an old bookstore in Ventura, CA. I bought it for $25.00! It's worth having so do some digging around on-line first. Lots of old book stores and copies out there that ship.

 

Amazon once listed a book I wanted for $400.00. I found it from a dealer in Cincinnati for about $15.00!

Okay, I am searching once again for this book to make a gift to our school library. I have run the search but thus far have only come up with Amazon at $127.00-$135.00. I love the book ,but that is steep! What is Powell's? What old book store in Ventura, CA? Our used book store has sold their copy.

I found a copy on ebay but lost it to another bidder . However, I did manage to snag a copy of School of Classical Dance by Kostrovitskaya for about $10!

Thank you Hans, I have checked ebay. Nothing for now! I also surfed the web under used bookstores and could not come up with anything under $100.00. Amazing to think that a book that was originally sold for I think $4.95 in 1985 is now going for $100.00 and up! A great book though and well worth the money I suppose if you look at it long term!

I thinK, I just bought this book from a book seller in Denver for 25.00. I'll know in about five days! WoW! $150.00 way too much! Out of print, then I have no problem with a photocopy at that price! I've also seen a couple of copyright dates for the same title. It may have had a reprint of two. Alas just got an email, no longer available!

I just checked www.abebooks.com (where I buy used books) and they have 4 copies listed, all in varying conditions:

1 for $200
