Guest Until The End Of Time
I snagged on a nail and i ripped the bottom of the footed tights. Ok I am not panicking, ok I am. I don't want to drive 40 miles there and 40 miles back to get new tights. So I will order off the net, Any recommendations? This time I want to order footless light Grey Tights, So my teacher can see my legs better. With my other tights I cut off the feet on both of them to stop any farther ripping and I burned the ends of where I cut the tights to try to prevent any further ripping on them. Next I will ask my mother to sew the cut bottoms, or would I be better off getting a new pair? Oh and would the Light grey look stupid with Black slippers? Oh and what do men call their ballet shoes/slippers? Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
You can keep the old tights in play as long as a long run doesn't start to extend from the rip. And even then, they could be fine just for class. Grey is good. I still prefer white shoes for men, but if you must wear black, wear socks and make sure that the elastics on the shoes match the socks. Quote Link to comment
Guest Until The End Of Time
I am trying to find a decent site on the net which is hard to find because I barely trust ordering on the net. Could you give me a few to look from please Mel. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Let's get together and help with this, guys, because my shopping doesn't happen mostly on the web. I have found that: http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.php...catrequest.php3 Is dependable. Quote Link to comment
Guest chucke
I made links to all the sites I have bought from here: http://balletalert.com/dancersforum/index....showtopic=16445 I have purchased from all of them multiple times and have had no problems. - Chuck Quote Link to comment
ping
Apart from the sites mentioned. ( http://balletalert.com/dancersforum/index....howtopic=16445) I ussually get dance clothing from the following catologs. If you request their catalogs, you'll get a new one every few months. www.22dance.com It's The Dance Shop in Fort Worth, TX and it has a big selection of mens and boys clothing, M Stevens, Bal Togs, Capezio. But not many shoes and it is more expensive. www.dancedistributors.com A lot like Discount dancewear, but mostly BalTogs. Also, all the sansha shoes, including the flesh color. www.allaboutdance.com All About Dance doesn't have as much, just some Capezio clothing and tights, but also Bloch shoes and Motionwear shirts. All of these company's have a catolog that comes every month too two months. How about someone builds a sticky or a faq for mens/boys dance wear? I could help. ping Edited March 5, 2004 by ping Quote Link to comment

Mel Johnson
How about someone builds a sticky or a faq for mens/boys dance wear? I could help. Uh...on the face of it, that sounds like a good idea, but I don't think it will pan out the way it's intended. Some Very Odd People (V.O.P.s) are attracted to topics like that. We've bounced more than one of them in the life of this board! Quote Link to comment
Guest Until The End Of Time
I agree with Mel, because the main reason I joined this board was to talk to actual danseurs not perverts or people who lie because they have a fetish. Quote Link to comment

We've bounced more than one of them in the life of this board! Also, it's always a good idea to support your local dance store. Mostly, they are small retailers who need every customer. Frequently they give discounts to local dance students and go out of their way to support performances, both by rushing last minute costume needs and sometimes by direct monetary donation. However, many male dancers don't have access to a good local merchant. Some stores don't see the need to stock men's gear, or their inventory is so small they should just give up. Online stores are lifesavers in those situations, but let people find them on their own (it isn't hard: can you spell GOOGLE?). Officially listing them in a permanent topic is a trap Ballet Talk should avoid. By featuring one, another gets slighted, some are nasty places that should receive an X rating, and others have bad customer service or slow delivery. Quote Link to comment
Guest Until The End Of Time
I don't think its a bad Idea to post certain quality sites, after all we ask for them. We personally don't to go through bad experiences? Girls have the upmost respect in dance stores, however when a male walks in its like they don't think twice about us. But when we ask for mens dance stuff they say no but we can order. I say to myself I came to buy not have you order when I can do that myself. it gets agitating. Because I have to drive even farther. Girls have the advantages us guys don't. Its like being in the 1950's where we men in the dance world are the ones who are segretated. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Nope, not gonna do it. Wouldn't be prudent. And if you think it's bad now, you shoulda been around in the early 60s, when nobody knew from men's dancewear outside of NYC. Quote Link to comment
MJ
Learn how to sew. Wearing ripped tights is a sign of an advanced dancer. MJ Quote Link to comment

Hilarion
But what about when your tights rip at the gusset, as happened to me in last night's class? It was right where all the seams meet, so not visible, flesh-colored dancebelt notwithstanding. When we got to grand battements at the barre I became somewhat anxious. I was afraid that I would reach some critical threshold of tension and the tights would spit apart completely, like Emerson's wonderful one hoss shay, leaving me clad in dancebelt and slippers only. All that actually happened was that I was not quite able to focus as I should on what I ought to be doing, so I kept falling behind the beat, or doing opposite arms in arabesque, etc. I never get tears like this when I wear cotton/lycra tights or unitards, only nylon/lycra. I'm packing sturdier tights for tomorrow's classes, that's for sure. Quote Link to comment
