Preparing for an audition

How do I prepare for an audition such as a drop in class. That's what i've been doing because I (at my age) have to spend the summers with my father and I am limited to SIs in West Palm Beach and Boca Raton, Florida. In 2 weeks i'll be "auditioning" for Ballet Florida and I need to know more about auditions. My last audition was for a less proffesional SI/company. :D

An audition class for an SI is just that, a class. You prepare for it the way you do for any regular class. Be sure that you look your best, with an appropriate color leotard, clean tights and shoes, and your hair neatly coiffed in a bun. You should also discuss your training background and age with the person who is scheduling your class, so that you are placed in an appropriate class for your level of training. They will need to know how long you have studied ballet, how many classes a week you take, whether you are on pointe or not, and where you study during the year.

Good Luck, pointe2dtop! Smile and look confident - show the auditioners that you know what you're doing. Also, concentrate veeeery veeeery well when combinations are being shown: that way, you'll be able to think about the actual exercise when you're doing it, and not the order of moves...

Ms Leigh, "coiffed" is such a nice word! I've never heard anyone use it before though - does it come from the French 'coiffure' ?

Yes, Bee, I think coiffed probably does come from the French word coiffure.

Remember to warm up before the class, and sure you are stretched. BE confidante, and always smile. Show the auditioners that you love to dance. If they give you a correction remember to apply it right away so they know that you want to improve! oh ya and get sleep the night before so your not yawning in the class! Have fun and enjoy! :D
