Guest starrdancer
Hey everyone! Lately I have been having lots of trouble with my developes. My teacher says that I am using the top of my thigh too much instead of lifting from below. My hip flexor tendon is very tight and sore. I have been tring to use my "inner thighs" to do developes to the side, but I cant seem to find the right muscule to do it and make my legs high and turned out nicely. Does anyone know any excercises that would help me find and strengthen the correct muscules? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 26, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted March 26, 2004 Starrdancer, this one has been dealt with about a hundred times here. There are so many topics on it I can't even tell you which forum to search on first. I know the Adult Ballet Students forum has a lot of posts on this, and many times I have explained it. Try a little search, okay? If you can't find it, I will do the explanation again, but right now do not have time to do it. The muscles you want to use are your hamstrings, and it is done mostly with imagery. Try a search on hamstrings, developpé, front extension, imagery, etc. Almost any of those words should bring up a lot of stuff to read. Quote Link to comment
DanceAngel
Hi, i'm danceangel's daughter and I've been dancing ballet for 12 years now. I have always had trouble with inner thigh strength. I kept building up my "quads" because I would lift my leg using mostly my "quads" I went to CPYB last summer and the level I was in concentrated on inner thigh strengh, the one thing I learned is that Pilates helps devlop inner thighs, becasue once you have abdominal strength your correct leg muscles will start to work. If you start concentrating on rotation of the leg in your developes you will automatically feel your inner thighs working, you may not feel an intense grip of the inner tighs right away because it takes time for your muscles to realize that your breaking old habits (in your case using your hip flexors). You still might even feel your hip flexors working, but they will keep on working untill you have fully devloped your inner thighs. In time you'll see that they will work less and less each time. It will definately take time to rebuild your muscle memory, but don't give up just because you still feel your hip flexors working. One more suggestion is, and i know this sounds funny, but tighten your butt muscles that will help your rotation which in turns helps release your hip flexors. I HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU!...Good Luck* Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 27, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted March 27, 2004 Hello DanceAngels' daughter. Thank you for your information, which is very valid. However, I have to ask you to please register with your own name, as it is illegal here on Ballet Talk to have two people use the same name to post. That gets very confusing, very quickly. So, please just register on the board under your own screen name! Thank you Quote Link to comment
