Guest Until The End Of Time
I am going to Tenneessee. I have never been out of New York except the great lake areas. Michigan, Canada ( Toronto, Ontario), Pennslyvania, Ohio. I am going to visit my friend Jeff who just moved down there. I want to check out the zoo and night life and shopping. Anyone want to give me ideas or so. Also any dance shoppes? I figured since I am going down there I'd pick up some tights and new ballet slippers. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted March 29, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted March 29, 2004 The Grand Ole Opry, if you're going to Nashville What part of Tennessee are you going to? City, mountains, small town??? Quote Link to comment
Guest Until The End Of Time
I am going to be staying with my friends while I am down there in a town called Smyma. ( Don't worry I was so confused on that name and laughed too). I have no clue on that town except its 15 minutes from Nashville. I needed to get away from New York for a few days and this is my chance so Im taking it. Road Trip!!!! A very long road trip. 12 hours to drive from NY to TN. I would take a plane but I am too scared of them. I am a very paraniod person when it comes to heights. I can handle rollercoasters and so on but nothing that is not holding anything up in the sky like planes, helicopters, jets, etc. But I figured I'd ask on here for some stuff to do visit etc. I know they have a danceart shop there with all kinds of dance pictures, cereamics, etc. Danceart.com I gotta get going so chat with you later. Guest fastfeets
Hey I'm in Nashville! See the Opryland Hotel if you can. It's rather impressive. Grand Ol' Opry, of course. The zoo is nice...very small, and qaint, but a nice walk. Don't expect a great deal, though. Try to head to the Bluebird Cafe. Great place to hear music you might hear on the radio soon. It looks very unimpressive, but it's where all the songwriters wet their feet. Very strange, but a lot of fun. Downtown Nashville has a lot of clubs and restaurants for nightlife. Blackstone's is a really nice pub. Good for starting out before hitting clubs or whatever. Dance stores...hmm...well, there's not a lot. We're sort of barren when it comes to very well stocked stores. The Nashville Ballet is stocked by Spells Dancewear in Brentwood (just south of the city about 5 minutes or so). Depending on when you're going to be here you could catch a NB performance of Romeo and Juliet, as well. If you feel the need to take a few ballet classes, I know a good place, too. ;) Quote Link to comment
Guest Until The End Of Time
Thanks for the response fastfeets. I appreciate it. I doubt I would be able to take a class. Too much shopping, visiting places and clubbing. Quote Link to comment
Guest patev
Fastfeets....I'm not planning a trip to Nashville, but the IT headquarteres of the Company I work for is there and I do go there somewhat regularily for business...I'm curious as to any good classes where a drop in adult student would be welcome?? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Guest fastfeets
patev, it's called The Dance Studio, and has wonderful classes. The adult ballet class geared towards absolute beginners, and does move quite slowly. The mainstream classes are very welcoming of adult dancers. Those classes are good and challenging with a former Pennsylvania Ballet principal teaching them. He's a riot, really. Drop ins are more than welcome, too. In summer, especially, there are quite a few folks who come through with extra training needs to gear up for SI's or home from university...etc. It's a nifty studio. The school is south of Nashville, in Franklin. It's a small place, but very friendly and warm. If you'd like to look up the schedule, the website is www.thedancestudio5678.com. Also, the Nashville School of Ballet offers morning open classes. I have attended a few of them, and they're ok....I wasn't fond of the flooring, though. Concrete, non sprung floors. My shins hurt for days following. If they've changed that, I'm not aware of it....but it's possible they may have revamped their facilities. Quote Link to comment
