l2daisygirl
I was wondering if anyone had any info on where to find hairnets in bulk? I've tried beauty-co and sally beauty supply (for those of you in texas) but haven't come up with any. My dd wears bunhead brand, but they seem to be out of stock at our local store most of the time. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Guest ivy'smama
I order them from Sally's Beauty Supply. They will order you as many as you want. My dd likes the bouffant size and they hold up forever! They are also pretty cheap - around .39 each, I think. Quote Link to comment
jambon
I got tired of having to buy hairnets constantly so I order them by the gross now for my dd. I buy them from a restaurant equipment business at www.kerekesequip.com. A box of 144 costs $24.00 which equals to around $0.17 a piece which is a much better deal than what I was spending at our local store. Shipping costs me around $6.00 but will depend on where you live. I buy two boxes at a time because it doesn't change the shipping cost. My dd dances six days a week and they have lasted over a year and a half. I hope that this helps. Quote Link to comment
vagansmom
Jambon, what kind of hairnets are they? Are they the thin, small-weave kind or the thicker large-weave? That price is very inviting Quote Link to comment
mini cooper
what a great thread! It never occured to me that you can order in bulk. I'm checking this stuff out. What a great way to stock up for SI supplies. Can we do this with bobby pins, etc., also? mc Quote Link to comment
vagansmom
Yes, you can do it with bobby pinsand hairpins. I used to buy the long thick hairpins from Vermont Country Store. I don't remember the price but it was very economical. I bought two batches several years ago and daughter still has a lot of them left. I'm not sure they offer them anymore. A friend told me that you can order bobby pins or hairpins in bulk from hair salon dealers. I'm sure a search on Internet would turn up a source. Quote Link to comment
Momof3darlings
Sally's does have the hairpins and bobby pins in bulk. I think it's 1000 per box, maybe 500 but at any rate a much easier/cheaper way to get them. And if you can find one of those off name Beauty Supply places near you, the kind with the bad "fake" hair, their prices are the best and they will have them as well. We buy fake eyelashes at the off name stores for 59 cents apiece. We also buy matte clear first aid tape from a medical supply oriented pharmacy to go over the knots of DD pointe shoes. Comes on rolls the size of masking tape for about $6.00. Hmmm, I'm liking where this thread is going. vj Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Of course, you could always take up tatting, and make them yourself! Martha Washington used to do that while she was living at my old house in 1782-3. She used "combings" and made hairnets for George's staff and colleagues. Henry Knox, who favored big hair, was a regular recipient. Quote Link to comment
jambon
Vagansmom, The hairnets are the thin small-weaved kind. My dd uses so much hairspray that she usually only gets one use out of any hairnet so these have turned out to be the most economical for us. They are very similiar to the thin Goody hairnets that come in a package of three. Edited April 1, 2004 by jambon Quote Link to comment
vagansmom
That's perfect, Jambon, thank you so much. I will send that info on to my daughter now. Quote Link to comment
mom1
Careful with the hairpins. We bought two boxes of 1000 from Sally's (one short and one long) and they turned out very thin and difficult to work with. It was a generic brand, so perhaps there are better choices available. Not all hairpins are created equal.... Quote Link to comment
jambon
I'm glad I was able to help you out, Vagansmom. I have always learned so much from your posts that it makes me happy to know that I have finally been able to give out some useful info of my own. Quote Link to comment
l2daisygirl
Ditto woth vagansmom, i, too, will order the bulk hairnets!!!! Thanks!!! Quote Link to comment
Momof3darlings
My my Mel. The encouragement of WonderMom status is strictly prohibited! Mom1 is correct, the Sally's hairpins in the blue and white boxes are not worth it. We buy the bulk ones that come in the big plastic tubs instead. They are of higher quality. vj Quote Link to comment
vicarious
Do you have a stock # for these or more of a description as my DH is probably going to be picking them up.
