onmytoes123
I have heard many different things about this and I wanted to know what was the truth. What is better: Yoga or pilates? I have been taking a few pilates classes and some people said that pilates was not good for a dancer, but I am not sure if I believe it or not. Quote Link to comment
Dancing on my toes
I don't know about yoga. But I do pilates, and it is definetely not bad for dancers! It creates long, lean muscles which are desired in ballet. Quote Link to comment

Mel Johnson
Pilates is one of the most highly recommended modalities for supplementary and therapeutic exercise for dancers. Yoga, if properly introduced and followed is good, too, but any school of "yoga" that emphasizes the postures over the internal work, the mind/body connection in quietness, isn't really teaching much yoga at all. There are a lot of fakes out there. Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 4, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted April 4, 2004 Pilates was created primarily by a dancer, for dancers. Especially for dancers to rehab from injury. However, it is an excellent program for all dancers. I think that far more professional dancers today do Pilates than Yoga. In my personal opinion, there is no comparison. Pilates is better for dancers. Quote Link to comment
