onmytoes123
I have a BIG problem! In arabesque I can not straighten my leg! I wanted to know if there were any excercises that I could do to help that or do I just have to straighten it? If you have any stories or advice I would like to know! Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 12, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted April 12, 2004 What do you mean "cannot" straighten your leg? Can you straighten it in a tendu? If so, you CAN straighten it in an arabesque. You will need to locate your quad muscle, which is not working if your knee is not straight in that position, unless you have the kinds of knees that just do not straighten all the way at any time. If the can straighten, then it is up to you to make them straighten. The leg will do what you make it do, it doesn't have a mind of it's own! Quote Link to comment
onmytoes123
I cannot straighten my leg all the way. It looks like it is bent although I am working really hard to straighten it! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 12, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted April 12, 2004 Okay, then you have HypOextended legs. This takes a lot of special work and I strongly recommend a Physical Therapist and/or a CERTIFIED Pilates Instructor. Quote Link to comment

Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 12, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted April 12, 2004 That is good, however DO speak to the instructor about specific work for straightening your knees. Quote Link to comment
