I am going to the CPYB summer prrogram, and it goes from late June to early August. That means so far I have no dance classes for almost all of August, so I was wondering if you think i should take a small 2 week intensive in that time slot. I know I havent been dancing over spring break, and when I got back in my classes I was completely pooped. I cant imagine not dancing for almost a month and then going to my performing arts high school, which dances every day. What do you recommend??

Two weeks vacation, and then a few classes when you can during the second two weeks. After the Intensive, you will need a break, and you will do better if you take it and let everything settle down and rest. Then start back easy, like one class a day or even every other day, and you will be fine when school starts! :)

If you are going to CPYB this summer, there is also a two week august course. The only problem is there is no official residency and you have to live with a host family. I may be doing this so that it will help me stay in shape for when I get back to dancing in the fall. I'm not exactly sure of the dates, but I know it's not directly after the 5 week course for CPYB. I may be attending it this year, but I'm not 100% sure. Check out the website... www.cpyb.org if you want more info.

Hope, I helped some. =)

the 5 week cpyb course is sooo intense that i took a week of classes at home, and then only went to 2 classes for the other 3 weeks of august. i felt i really need a rest to avoid burnout, and it helped let all the things i learned at cpyb really sink in. its not terrible to take a break once in a while!

Ms. Leigh,

So you do reccommend taking 2 weeks vacation after a summer intensive? Because I know that we should take a break after dancing so exhaustively, but I'm really worried that I will lose whatever technique that I have gained over the course of the SI, and then it will all be worthless. Because I remember that last year, these two girls from my studio took a month off(which granted, is a lot longer than 2 weeks) after a 6 week long prestigious intensive and when they got back, they did not seem to have improved at all since the beginning of summer. Is that because they took time off, or perhaps they just didn't improve in general? Thanks for any advice you have in advance!

How about taking 2 to 3 weeks off after a 6-week SI, but still taking Pilates once or twice a week? Would that be better than nothing? How many classes would be recommended to take the rest of the summer until the regular fall season starts? (By the way...this would be for a 14 year-old serious dancer :) )

I am going through the same dilemma. I am dancing intensively at NCSA until July 26, but my *eevil* studio is closed through the month of Aughust. I have the option of attending thedancingpineapple's studio intensive during that month, or I could give myself classes daily at home. Which would be better?

Not knowing "thedancingpineapple studio", it is difficult to advise you. Perhaps you could get some advice from your teacher? Maybe a rest really could be quite nice?

I just spent my whole weekend driving to Erie, Pennsylvania and back with my parents, and I went crazy without dance classes! Luckily, my studio is having classes in august, but only 2 days a week I think. I will try to stay sane...
