Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted April 17, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted April 17, 2004 Some companies actually prefer dancers who are a bit more mature. It varies a great deal, and there are no rules or absolutes. Most classical companies tend to look at high school graduates for potential trainee or apprenticeships, and full company a couple of years later. Dancers do get hired after college once in a while, but most dancers who receive professional contracts will get their first one prior to that age they would be at college graduation. Many go for a year or two, some defer the first year to be a trainee or apprentice and see if they can get a full contract, and others do some courses during their performing career and then finish afterwards. College can be done anytime, ballet can't. Quote Link to comment
