class question

i am working out my summer dance schedule and i really would like to dance at least 5 times a week... with working i can do it but i have to scrunch 2 classes in one day and 3 in another and then a pointe class. I have read others posts on classes and people talk about dancing 5 times a week or 3 times or what not... when they refer to classes like that is it one class a night? or multiple classes in one night generally? If i need to be dancing at least 5 times a week is it still okay to squeeze those times into 2 or 3 days and not dance the other days, or is it better to spread it out? I'm not sure if this makes a whole lot of sense, it's kind of hard to put into words. But i would appreciate any input. thanks!

If it's summer and you're not competing with school or a summer job, why not take class every day? You can take two ballet technique (or 1 technique, 1 pointe) classes plus a specialty like variations, pas de deux, modern or jazz every day!

Melissa, did you say you are working during the summer? Can you work your schedule so that you can have a daily class? It's really a LOT better to have more days than more classes in a couple of days. One technique and a pointe would be ideal, but 5 days a week.

Yes, the language is unclear. I thought that the "with working" meant that you had to work at arranging the classes. If there is a competing job, then the scheduling becomes even trickier.

i may be able to work out it byt taking morning classes and then working at night... it's just hard because the level i am currently in is not offered at different times or consistently 5 days a week, it's kind of a strange arrangement. Is it a bad idea to to take a class a little above my level just to be able to take class? And i don't think my school even offers a strictly technique class. I usually do go however to a ballet intro class that is slow and seems to focus more on technique, but it's not labeled technique, you think thats okay? But thank you for the advice! I'll do my best to try and spread the classes out. :)

Melissa, now I'm really confused! What are the classes called? A ballet class is a ballet class, which means it is a ballet technique class. Can you clarify please?

i'm sorry!! I was the one who was confused, so therefor i confused you :) A regular class is a technique class, for some reason i was thinking it was something different. Sorry about that! I have been working on my schedule now and it's getting kinda difficult with the studio i'm at... is it okay to split classes between 2 different studios?

It's okay to do that, but perhaps you could find one school which offers what you need in terms of more regular classes. This would be best, however, if it's not possible, then two schools, as long as they are relatively compatible, would be okay. If the teaching is extremely different, and you are not advanced, it could be quite confusing though.

alright... i think figured this out and just wanted to run it by you and see if it sounds good in theory :rolleyes: I will take 2 classes monday, one class wed, one class friday and one class sunday (possibly) and i will try to for wednesdays take 2 classes at Steps, it just might become too much trouble taking the train to NY... but i want to try. so you think that is good? 4-5 classes spread out during the week? thanks!

That's sounds pretty good, Mellisa. But why would you have to go to NY from Philly? Surely there are enough classes at The Rock?

i would prefer the rock since it is so close to home, but i am kind of apprehensive about it. I'm older for my level and i'm not sure i would be allowed to take classes. I just knew that steps had opened classes, i looked on the Rocks website a little and i can't even find if they are offering summer classes besides the intensive. I guess i could call and find out, i guess i just don't feel quite good enough to take class there. i don't know.

Well, I think I would certainly try before making a schlep into the city! They just might have some open classes in addition to their SI, and there is no way to know without calling!
