Guest ballethoney
Over the weekend my mom and I discussed the fact that I have subscriptions to both Pointe and Dance Magazines. She thinks it is pointless to get them both, because they are more or less identical. I personally like getting them both, but I was wondering if anyone has any strong preferences between the two? Is there a reason I could give my mom to convice her I should still receive both? Any feedback would be great! Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
The two magazines could hardly be more different. They have a different artistic view, a different critical base, a different audience (Dance takes in all dance, even if it seems mostly ballet sometimes), the kinds of advice given by each is in very different areas, and it's a good idea to get both. You need as much news from the larger world of ballet as you can get! Quote Link to comment
KitriSpanishDancer
I personally like Pointe magazine better becuase it focuses specifically on ballet and ballet is wat im interested in. Dance magazine tends to talk a lot about cheerleading, ad little dance competitions which im not very interested in. I think it really depends on the person who is subscribing. Quote Link to comment
qtpiedanzer01
i enjoy both. but dance magazine has 12 issues where as pointe only has 6 a year. so thats my deciding point. but i absoloutly dispise dance spirit. that magazine is horrible. Quote Link to comment
Dolphingirl
I currently only get Pointe, but I think in general, I prefer Dance. I haven't read Dance as often, but it is my impression that the articles are better written, and less fluffy. They seem more substantial, and I like that they cover other areas of dance. Guest ballethoney
Thanks so much everyone! I have seen the magazine Dance Spirit at our school library. It looked like it was geared more towards jazz and compititions than towards ballet. (It looked a bit cheesy to put it nicely) Mr. Johnson, I showed my mom your post and now she is letting me get both! I looked at some older issues of Pointe and Dance Magazine, even though Dance Magazine isn't specifically ballet, they do have some dynamite articles about professional companies and such.
