I have noticed that a lot of dancers on this board have been to ballet competions. I would really like to go to USA National Youth Ballet Competition in PA this year. But I really have no experience with competitions. Can someone tell me what really happens and how they judge and if you have to have something already prepared. I would really like to go to a ballet competition, but I'm kind of clueless. I would really like someone to tell me the basics of any competition.

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the competition you mention, however, with the Youth America Grand Prix competitions you have to have several things prepared. Dancers are generally entered in these events by their teacher/coach, and you are expected to do two classical variations and one contemporary solo. You first enter a regional competition, and if you place high enough in that, you are invited to participate in the finals in NYC.

This may be slightly off topic but i think Ms. Leigh may be able to help me. Do you know which (or at least some) international competitions will be held in 2005?

No, actually I don't, Dancer6788. I am personally not a great fan of these events, and do not follow them. Some of our students have been entered in YAGP, which is why I know a little bit about that one.
