Guest veggiegrl88
I really don't want to sound like I'm bragging but I have pretty flexible quads. I haven't really found a strech that does anything for them. Does anyone know anything that might work to stretch them? Quote Link to comment
qtpiedanzer01
just a question but how do you have flexible quads? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted July 31, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted July 31, 2004 If your quads are not tight, then it's possible that you don't really need to do much in that area. I think that the basic quad stretch, facing the barre standing on one leg with the other leg bent up towards your derrière. You hold the top of the foot with the right hand for the right foot. Be sure not to sickle the foot. Stand very straight, keep the knees together, and pull the heel towards your derrière. The knee should point straight down to the floor. Don't let the posture drop and the weight sink into the supporting leg. (Not every stretch has to hurt to be valid! ) Quote Link to comment
Guest veggiegrl88
qtpie, I think I was just born that way. I never tried to make that area more flexible than the rest of me, it just ended up that way. Quote Link to comment
Guest pirouettes8943
just trying to refresh my memory...how are the quads used during ballet? Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted July 31, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted July 31, 2004 The quads are needed to fully extend the leg, pirouettes. They are also pretty important in standing with straight legs, and in stability on one leg and relevés, and just about everything one does in ballet! One needs strength in the quads much more than flexibility. The stretch is needed more in the hamstrings, on the back of the legs. The quad stretch is really used to just to keep that muscle from getting too tight because it has to work a lot. Quote Link to comment
Guest diamond fairy14
A good quad stretch for me is to sit in your splits (left or right) and try to touch your back foot or toe to your head while keeping your quad on the floor. (It may sound complicated but it's really not ). My foot goes a little farther than my head and since you said you quads are pretty flexible yours might to. I hope that helped. Sorry if it didn't. Well Good Luck!!! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 3, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted August 3, 2004 Careful of the knees with that one, though! I really don't care for any stretches that put undue pressure on the knees. There are other quad stretches that do that too, like kneeling and then pulling back, which does stretch the quads but it also can be rough on the knees. Quote Link to comment
Guest veggiegrl88
I've tried that one and it doesn't help much. I guess I can just be thankful I'm flexible there I guess. Thanks for all your help though! Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 3, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted August 3, 2004 Veggie, if your quads are that stretched, then you don't need to stretch them any more. Focus on other things that you do need! Quote Link to comment
Guest veggiegrl88
I will do that. Thank you Ms. Leigh! Quote Link to comment
