Guest stumbleine_
Hi again everyone. I have a concern about my ballet studio: I go to a small, but nice studio in my area, with a (I hope?) good teacher. I just started ballet this summer, by the way. I am a late starter (at 14) and I want to get the best training I can, even if I don't eventually become a professional dancer. I will tell you a little bit more about my studio, and I ask that you tell me if this is normal/good training. Prepare to read a total rambling. Okay, I am currently taking a beginning pointe class (not on pointe of course though!) because I desperately wanted to start ballet during the summer, so that class was the only one I could take (that is the only class besides 7 + 8 yr old ballet, which is only once a week, and I don't want to be with 7 + 8 yr olds!). I have (surprisingly) been able to keep up with my class and I'm improving pretty fast! Anyway, I was reading a thread that says it was unheard of to take pointe classes without technique classes. I was wondering what these technique classes are? Also, there is a girl in my class who is nine years old and en pointe. Should I be worried? I am also wondering what method my teacher is teaching (like, Vaganova, etc). I have absolutely no idea. How do you know? I am just really questioning if my studio is a good one. What other questions should I be asking? I really don't want to move schools because I live in a town with very little opportunites to dance and I thought I found a good one! sorry that was so long and made no sense. my mind is just not working right now! Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 5, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted August 5, 2004 Doesn't sound too good, stumbleine Starting you in a pointe class, no technique classes, nine year old on pointe.....nope. Time to look for something better. Quote Link to comment
Guest stumbleine_
Heh, thanks. I'll try to look for something better. My mother just doesn't understand what is wrong with the studio & she does not want to move me because it is close to our house and it's convenient . *Sigh* Quote Link to comment
Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 5, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted August 5, 2004 Stumbleine, I think it is time to get your mother involved in the Ballet Talk for Dancers Ballet Moms and Dads forum! Sounds like she needs some help in understanding about training. Convenient is nice, but if it's not good training, then it's a total waste of time and money. Quote Link to comment
