Guest BroadwayDiva8
i'm 17 years old and will be a senior in high school this year. i plan on trying to become a professional dancer right out of high school. my question is...should i try to become an apprentice with a company first or should i try to become a full-fledged dancer in a company right out of high school. is it common for companies to hire dancers right out of high school? some companies that i'm thinking of auditioning for are American Repertory Ballet, Miami City Ballet, PA Ballet, and possibly Boston Ballet. and also, if i plan on auditioning to be an apprentice do i still attend the regular auditions for the company? any info would be appreciated. Administrators Victoria Leigh Posted August 16, 2004 Administrators Report Share Posted August 16, 2004 These days it is very unusual to get a full contract right out of high school. Most companies are offering trainee or apprentice positions for the younger, less experienced dancers. Sometimes the auditions are separate, but often they are the same audition as for the company. You will need to check with each company before you audition. Link to comment
