Guest redgst
Hello, Does anyone know where I could find some white men's performance tights and not the practice tights. What material are those performance tights made of? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
thebill
All I know is stay away from the horrible capezio 100 percent nylon tights. To put it mildly they suck big ones. It was like wearing a burlap bag around my legs. Bunchy at the knee and saggy at the waist. Yuck. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
I'd go with M. Stevens tights. They come in either Milliskin or a Cotton/Poly Blend. They have minimum show-through and are much liked by many male dancers. Quote Link to comment
Guest Until The End Of Time
Forgive me Mel, I probably have asked before but what is Milliskin, I am sick to death of My Nylon Capezio tights, more than anything, I feel they don't respect my lower body enough, its like they are repeling themselves against my legs and etc. I have to pick myself up two pairs of M. Stevens. Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
Milliskin is nylon, too, but it's blended with a certain amount of Lycra for a more attractive finish and extra opacity. Quote Link to comment
BarreTalk
Milliskin is a nylon/lycra blend, which means it has a certain sheen, even a shine when lights are pointed at it. That makes it good for some things, bad for others. MStevens cotton/lycra tights have a more matte finish. Quote Link to comment
Guest Until The End Of Time
Barretalke what do you mean good for some and bad for some. What are the bad parts? Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
It wouldn't be right for "Les Sylphides", say. Quote Link to comment
Guest Until The End Of Time
what does that mean? Quote Link to comment
Mel Johnson
You'd have to see it to understand, but it's a ballet that's done in the high Romantic style of the 1840s, and shiny tights just wouldn't be right. For class, though, it's just a matter of what you like. Quote Link to comment
BarreTalk
Barretalk what do you mean good for some and bad for some. What are the bad parts?" Sometimes you might want a shiney look, other times not. For instance, last year I wore a pair of black milliskin tights as part of my Drosselmayer costume. The shine extended the glow from my satin cape and top hat, so it looked festive, formal and "right". However, I've never worn those tights to class because they kind of look like running tights and when combined with a t-shirt, I look like I just came back from jogging. and... Get out the Champagne. It's time for a party with balloons and noisemakers! I just noticed that this is my 200th post on Ballet Talk. That is certainly cause to celebrate. Quote Link to comment
Guest mic31
I've tried both Capezio and Mondor...both are nasty, I have no idea where to get M stevens in Canada. If anyone can let me know that would be great. I've used Bal Togs tights with great success, But if you don't want shine they definitely have some to avoid, but they have cotton/lycra that works great. Quote Link to comment
Mr Robin
I've tried both Capezio and Mondor...both are nasty, I have no idea where to get M stevens in Canada. If anyone can let me know that would be great. New York Dancewear will deliver anywhere in the world - I've ordered M.Stevens tights from them here in the UK. And they delivered faster than some British companies! Their website is www.nydancewear.com Quote Link to comment
