Ballet Schools in Michigan...

Recommended Posts

Guest xballetdreamsx

I'm still getting new to things here, so I'm really sorry if this is on the wrong board, or not allowed. But, I'm looking for some good schools in Michigan... if anyone could recommend any, that would be great. I live in an area with basically nothing, so I'm willing to drive a bit... however, me and my parents may be moving to the Flint area, but right now, I'm open to almost anything. Thanks so much.

Balletdreams,

There are several good schools in the Detroit area and some where there is basically nothing. Could you give me an idea of where you are, then I could recommend some options for you.

I'm in the Port Huron area... Doubt you've heard of it. ;) Detroit is a bit too far... it's about an hour and a half, but if it really all comes down to that, I may be able to make the drive.

Thanks again!

homeschooltreasurs--I went to MSU so I have lots of info about Lansing. If you want strict Russian ballet try Academy of Dance Arts on Michigan Ave. Assiff School of Dance in East Lansing is good or Happendance in Okemos. If you are on the east side, I am the ballet teacher at Maria's School of Dance in Fowlerville. Also Liz Williams has a good school in Williamston.

balletdreams--I am drawing a blank for the Port Huron area...I know that there are some decent places in Marysville, but the names are not coming to mind. If you do want to come more to the Detroit area, there is Rochester School of Dance, Gieger Classical Ballet (not 100% sure of the name), Grosse Pointe Academy of Dance...those are just off the top of my head.

Marysville would be great... If you ever remember the names of any of them, please post them. :clover:

And I'm still open to any other suggestions from anyone else, too. :flowers:

I am not extremely familiar with ballet schools in Michigan, but I did attend the Interlochen Arts Camp SI twice. I was very pleased with the training I recieved and the individual attention. I did not attend the academy (year round ballet and academic school), but knew someone who did and she liked it in terms of both academics and ballet. IAA's dance graduates go to college, others go to companies. I don't know if you are interested in leaving home to go to a ballet/academic school, but if you are, Interlochen is a great option. :D

Bajp-

Do you know anything about The Dance Company Conservatory Inc. in Marysville? (I think it's in Marysville anyway... it has a Marysville phone number on the ad in the paper). And, can you tell me anything else about the Rochester School of Dance? That might be an okay drive to make, too.

I'll keep that in mind! Thanks for telling me about it. :D

Thanks again.

Balletdreams,

I don't know anything about the Dance Company Conservatory. I am in NY at the moment and I have to wait until I get home to find out the name of the school in Marysville.

Rochester School of Dance has excellent ballet training. The teachers are great and they produce some beautiful dancers, several of whom have danced professionally. It would be a good place to study.
