Broken toe?

I think I have broken my thumb toe. I kind of stubbed it, but that was 30 minutes ago and it hurts to move it. It is red. I am worried, because ballet classes start in about 3 weeks. Please help!

OK, now it's had a little time to calm down. Has it stopped hurting? If you already haven't started icing it, do so immediately. Try taking Tylenol or whatever type of analgesic (pain-killer) or anti-inflammatory works for you. If it still hurts in the morning, head for the doctor immediately. If you can't get an appointment right away, then go to the Emergency Service of your local hospital.

Ok. Its morning time and I have to go to school. No, I did not ice it during the night, but I did elevate it. The pain has alleviated somewhat, so it doesnt hurt jsut sitting there, only when I walk. I'm going to show my parents what you wrote, and maybe I can go get help. Thanks so much!

In the meantime, tape it to the adjacent toe, just to immobilize it. It may not be broken, just sprained or jammed. Making a splint of the next good toe can help.

Updates: Good news! Its only a contusion (sp?) which is like a bad bruise. It is taped to the other toe, with padding in between and I am wearing a hard shoe (one of those things the doctors give you, a type of shoe where the toes dont need to work in order to walk). Toe is slowly gaining mobility....hope I'tll fully recover and I can do pointe in 2 weeks!

That's good!

I was hoping that it was something like that; keep us posted on how your recovery goes.
