Greetings, new poster with a very long name! Some ballet boarding schools: Harid, North Carolina School of the Arts, Bossov, Nutmeg ... more general arts schools: Walnut Hill, Interlochen. I think that The Rock in Philly may now have a small boarding component. School of American Ballet. They are all VERY different, and you need to check out each aspect - the dance, the residential, and the academic. There are not a lot of them in the U.s. - there are a few others in Canada - but I am sure there are a few others to be listed by others. There are probably some schools that have recently added a boarding component on a small scale, or added it for older students - always worth checking. For example, Houston has very limited boarding for older high school students, but no academic program - so that has to be done by correspondence.

You can probably do a search on these boards and find out some info on most of these.

San Francisco Ballet School now has a dorm for year round students. High School is accomplished by most students at the San Francisco Independence High School which works with the students' ballet schedules.

They have never had anything on the web site at SFB yet. It just opened last summer (dorm I mean) and this fall was the first year rounders to reside there. I would e-mail or call to ask particulars about that. They may post more on their site in the future. Most out of town attendees go to the SI first and are asked to stay from there.

How is the dance program ? Is it hard to get into ? Have many students that have gone there go on to be professionals for major companies?

Okay, I know this was not directed to me buuuuut...

Interlochen is known for having a quite good dance program, though (I am sure you are aware of this) it is very competitive. A typical day is up to 5 hours of dance (in addition to the academic studies), and Alumni have gone on to study at: The Juilliard School, Hartt Conservatory, University of Utah, Southern Methodist University, Mercyhurst College, SUNY Purchase, and New York University. They have also gone on to dance with (in ballet): Joffrey Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Netherlands Danse Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Ballet West, Colorad Ballet, Boston Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Ballet Met, Feld Ballet, Dayton Ballet, and Charleston Ballet Theatre.

Yay!
