Paying for partnering?

MJ

Recommended Posts

I had a teacher ask me to pay for partnering class last week, I've never been asked that before. Other studios welcome someone who knows how to partner.

Does anyone else pay for PDD?

Not to my knowledge, MJ! Every studio I know is needs male partners and is more than willing to give them the pas de deux classes, if not ALL of their classes!

I am inclined to say dont fret it, I've paid for partnering classes at the offical school of a very respectable regional ballet company. I was a visitor, I think had i been a consistent pupil adding to the dynamic on a daily basis they would have offered otherwise.

if you are planning on making a commitment to the studio let them know, they would probably be more inclined to losen up.

The requirements for taking Pas de Deux at my school:

"Women must be en pointe

Men must have a heartbeat"

(no, we don't have to pay either)

Oh, good! Brain activity isn't a prerequisite... so I have a chance

to do partnering after all.

PS: Perhaps the lack of payment is to compensate us for the fact

that no matter WHAT happens, ANY partnering mistake will

ALWAYS be, by definition, OUR fault?:wink:

The only way I've paid for partnering class is the day after, when my back reminds me I'm not as young as I used to be.

Back during WWII, when there was an ENTIRE shortage of men to partner the girls, SAB used to give girls a dollar bill to hire any likely (or unlikely) subject who happened by. "Dibs on Frank the Wino!"
